Uncovering the first billion years of the Universe with the Webb space telescope
We are now more than a full year into the era of the James Webb Space Telescope (the Webb), the largest space observatory ever. Webb is working even better than we expected and churning out stunning new views of the cosmos, nearly every day. At the same time, Webb’s spectroscopic observations are giving us crucial new insights into the first billion years of the Universe.
After explaining why Webb’s near-infrared spectroscopy is so powerful and innovative, we will embark on a short journey through the latest discoveries and see how these challenge our understanding of the early stages of galaxy formation.
